I don’t know if I should think it is cool or if I should be a little embarrasssed about it, but the other day, I realized that I have been wearing the same pair of shoes for 9 years. And it’s not like, “I have had this pair of shoes for 9 years” it’s like, “I have worn these shoes on a regular basis for 9 years.”
I think I am embarrassed.
It’s not like they even look too worn. They are brown leather Doc Martens. They have a heel and a buckle. I don’t even think I really like them that much anymore, I just haven’t found a good replacement. They probably cost me like, $90. I think I got my money’s worth.
So, I have been thinking I would like to get some new brown shoes. I am sure this makes Shane cringe since he thinks I have way too many shoes already. (This is not true at all and he would come to understand that it is true if he had the chance to look in any other women’s closet and count her shoes.)
I love my Dansko work shoes and have considered getting a brown pair for at home, but the look might be too casual and they are pricey.
I just can’t decide and can’t afford anything right now. My Doc’s will probably last me many years into the future anyway. So, until I find the perfect shoe and can afford them, they will have to do.
I still think nine years is too long.

Shoes are so hard because in a way they represent who you are. I had a really hard time replacing my birks. Went with Merrells, and I still don’t feel quite right.

DO NOT send shane to my closet to prove your point. I don’t have much of a selection, although I’d like to change that if our clothing budget were larger. I’ve got my running shoes, a few goes-with-anything kitten heel slip ons, a pair of knee high black leather boots and a pair of flip flops. And plenty of odd shoes I can’t get rid of, but don’t wear often…silver high-high heels from being a bridesmaid…my wedding shoes…

It sounds like we probably have the same amount of shoes. Out of the pairs I have though, I stick to about 3 of them. I should just get rid of the rest. But, you never know when you might need them.

I thought that too, but after I have gone months and not worn any of my colorful heals that I have only for one outfit, I decided to pass them off to a friend who will get much better use of them. Beside, I’m coming to realize that the blisters they leave are just not worth it. Maybe if I didn’t shop at Wal-Mart and Payless for my shoes they might be better quality. But I love those stores and will continue to buy cheap shoes that I wear 3 times and pass off. At least somebody will be getting free shoes out of the deal!
