Yesterday evening I was trying to organize Ethan’s toys and clean up his room a little bit. I had stepped out of his room for a minute and he was still in there doing whatever it is that he does. I started walking back into his room and stopped at the doorway to watch what he was doing. He had no idea I was there and I was able to call Shane and have him come and watch without disturbing his play. He had grabbed his black lab stuffed animal (Abbie). First he put the changing pad down on the ground right about where I change him. Then he put the puppy on the changing pad. Then he went over to the wipes contianer, picked it up with both hands, and brought it over, setting it on top of the dog. He was changing her diaper. It was so adorable and touching. He was mimicking what he has observed us do so many times. I nearly had tears in my eyes. He is growing up so fast. He then removed a wipe from the box and began wiping the puppy’s nose. He then saw us, brought the dog and the wipe over and had Shane wipe her nose, then his own nose. Then I had to wipe my nose. It was precious
Now if I could just get him to change is own diaper….

So I am sporting a sore shoulder today. You see, the rubberbands in my shoulders are loose. That is the best way I have found to describe it. It usually isn’t a problem. I am more flexible than most in my shoulder joints for one thing. But the problem is that every now and then, they will get stretched out too far or something and I end up with a sore shoulder for a few days. The first time it happened, I was playing softball in middle school or sometime around then and somehow I did it. The next time I can remember was during field hockey in High School. The occurences surrounding the shoulder popping out/getting stretched get stupider from here on out.
The last time (before today) that I remember it happening was while Shane and I were dating/engaged and we were watching Jurassic Park, I think. He was sitting behind me on a chair and I was leaning against it on the floor. My family was there. Right when something scary jumped out (presumably a dinosaur), Shane grabbed me and made a scary sound and I jerked my arm funny and it happened. I actually cried that time. Shane felt kind of bad and my brother was totally irritated that I had interrupted the movie. This morning, it happened when lying in bed and Shane asked me if I wanted to get up and take a shower. I asked him what time it was and he said it was seven. I jumped up flailing around and did something to my arm. I don’t know why I reacted that way…I know I had planned on being up before seven, so that must have been it
It was stupid and my arm hurts and will for a few days. Dumb. As Shane is always telling me, I need to be more careful.

Billy and Georgia were married this last Saturday and the events of our weekend (well, at least Friday and Saturday) were all wedding related. It was a really fun weekend but much of Sunday was spent recovering.
Friday night was the rehearsal. The wedding was at a friend’s house in Valley Center. They built this little make shift stage on the edge of there yard that overlooked all of Valley Center. Had it been a nice day, you may have been able to see the ocean. The reahearsal started at 4. It was overcast and very windy which means very cold. We were getting a preview of the day to follow. The dinner was at the steak house and the food was good. The company was better. It was a fun night and we were Ethan-less. My bridesmaid gift was earrings from Paris. Can’t beat that.
Saturday began with waking up early with Ethan, getting him all cleaned up and packed up and over to his Grammie’s. I had an updo at 11. My hair turned out awesome in my opinion. We had to be at Bates Nut Farm (also in Valley Center…never been there any other time than for pumpkins at Halloweek…very different look in April). It was sprinkling on the way there. It was very very cold. We took a few pictures and headed over to the house around 2ish. We helped get Georgia all ready. She had a beautiful strapless ivory dress. She looked lovely. The ceremony started around 4:30 and we kind of knew what we were in for. The little shrugs we had came off, in support of Georgia’s bare shoulders and out we went in our spaghetti strapped, knee length, sparkly silver dresses. It was ice cold. The wind was whipping through and we were shivering uncontrollably. Georgia’s arms were blue. My knees were knocking. About half way through, I couldn’t feel my toes. I was totally preoccupied with the thought that I was not going to be able to walk off of the platform we were on. Our shoes were insane. They were awesome, but they were definetly crazy. I don’t think I have ever worn anything like them before then and between the cold and the fact that all the blood was rushing straight to my big toe and my foot was bent all crazy due to the height of the heel I was wearing, I was sure I was going to eat it the first step I took and ruin Georgia’s wedding. I did make it off, thanks to Shane’s arm. It turns out I was not alone…all the bridesmaids’ feet were that way and several of them fell to the floor at the earliest opportunity. All shoes were removed immediately.
Back to Bates for more pictures, then to the house again for the reception. It was decorated so prettily. Georgia is so creative and has very good taste. The food was awesome. I drank more alcohol that night than I have probably in the last 5 years. I was fine, but I kept thinking it would warm me up. And it was that or coffee. After one cup of coffee, I switched to the booze.
The highlights of the reception were Georgia and her dad dancing to the song “Georgia”, the flower girl twirling like a ballerina and her ring bearer brother flying around like an airplane on the dance floor in and out of couple’s dancing, the ring bearer later insisting on dancing with Shane and only Shane and Shane obliging, the lack of rain despite the clouds and the coldness, and the sugar cookies on the centerpieces of each table (heart shaped, pink frosting. I ate like, 5 of them, I think. They were good.)
It was a very nice wedding and I hope they are happy as a married couple. They are in Cancun as we speak. I am sure Georgia is glad the wedding is over and she can have her life back. She was so busy planning and making things. She won’t know what to do with all of her free time now. She can hang out with me:)

I joined the women’s book club at our church this last month. Actually, this is the first month it has existed. I am not really sure I will be able to attend the meet ups where the books are discussed, but I love to read and thought it would be cool to read books others select/recommend and possibly get to hear what they thought about them.
We selected Reading Lolita in Tehran for our first book. It is a tough book. It is getting easier to read as time goes by, but it is not light reading. I am really enjoying it and I cannot stop thinking about Iran. I can’t believe some of the things I am reading that go on there. The book discusses much about the authors life in Iran from the late 70s as Ayatollah Khomeini came to power and the Islamic Revolution. I am so interested in finding out more about what exactly did happen at that time and I am wishing I had paid more attention in my High School World History class. I vaguely remember Iran being an issue back then, but little more than that before reading this book. It is very interesting and it is so insane to read about the injustices that the people of Iran have suffered under their government. I am enjoying the book very much and I am a little disappointed I will miss the discussion.
Reading this book has made me realize how much I shelter myself from the world. I pay very little attention to things going on locally in my community, let alone in other countries. We don’t get the paper, we don’t watch the news. I am planning on starting to do either, but there is a lot of stuff going on out there and I should probably start paying a little more attention. I don’t want to sound like I am totally clueless or don’t care, because I do have a little bit of a clue and I really do care. I just think that I should start to care more.

Billy and Georgia are getting married in about two weeks and this weekend was the bachelor/bachelorette party weekend. Shane went with Billy and the guys up to the cabin where they did who knows what and the girls went out on Friday night. I think it might have been my first bachelorette party. I have been in so many weddings, but I don’t think any of the girls had parties…or maybe I just wasn’t invited. Well, this was quite a bachelorette party. We ended up at Dick’s Last Resort in the Gaslamp in downtown San Diego. I had been there before briefly and like, ten years ago or something, but it is quite a place. There were six of us, all Christians, and that place is crazy. And maybe sleezy is another good word to describe it. But we knew that ahead of time and that is the kind of party Georgia wanted. We had a blast. The cool thing about it was that there were so many people there, but they weren’t the “cool” people where you feel awkward and uncomfortable with yourself. We felt very comfortable and we were very popular thanks to the veil Georgia was wearing. We got a lot of attention. The place is messy…they throw stuff everywhere. At one point we asked for napkins and our waiter threw a whole pack of napkins up in the air to land on our table. It was snowing napkins. Everyone is throwing stuff at everyone. At the end, we were getting dollar bills thrown at our table from somewhere (only 2 bucks, though.) Georgia had to play a game where she had to do these random embarrassing things while we were there, like, take some food off of someone’s plate and eat it, find someone named Billy, sing a song to someone, etc. She was awesome and it was super fun.
I was very tired the next day, however, and on my own with Ethan. He is such a good kid and we had a fun day yesterday, We went to the Carlsbad outlet mall and shopped. He got new Vans (Old Skool blue velcro ones…prison issue, I hear they are called). And I got a pair of shorts and a shirt and a belt. We played by the fountain and tried unsucccessfully to get Ethan to throw the penny he found into the water. Later, the penny diappeared. I am hoping he dropped it instead of snacking on it….
Shane went straight from his weekend to church at 8 and is still there (it’s 1:30). We will see him soon and hear about his crazy weekend. I will close with Ethan’s new word for the week: LAGOON. Everytime we pass it, he says it over and over. But it is more like, Laloon.

The strep throat is back. It is awful. I am on antibiotics again and feeling a little bit better today. This time, it came with hives. I am not sure if they are related, but I have hives ALL OVER and they itch so very much. I don’t know why I am sick so much lately. I hate it. I suppose I will take anything, though, as long as Ethan doesn’t get it. Let’s hope he doesn’t. It’s terrible.
