I swear that this evening while making Ethan a cup of milk, he sang:

“Shake a booty, Shake a booty, Oooh.”

Is that a song? He sang it twice and I laughed uncontrollably, which made him sing it more. I don’t know if that is what he was saying, but it sure sounded like it and it still makes me laugh as I am writing about it now. And I keep singing it to in my head over and over.

It is beginning to get really hot around here and I am not sure what we are going to do about our house. It is 82 degrees inside right now, which is warm, but not too bad, but before long I know it is going to get unbearable. Now that we are all home a majority of the time, we are going to need to figure something out to keep us cooler. We have fans, but they just seem to blow hot air around and unless you sit with your face right in front of them, it isn’t too much of a help. We have an air conditioner in one wall in the living room, but it basically does the same thing as the fan. Our windows are too narrow for window air conditioners, so they won’t work. We looked into central air, but it would cost several thousand dollars. When we are suffering in 100 degree heat in the house, I would be willing to spend a million dollars to make it cooler. It is something we need to figure out.

I got the fans out today. Ethan is deathly afraid of them. He really didn’t like it and any time we would go near it, he would wimper and climb me.

So, we could splurge and have central air conditioning installed, we could get a portable air conditioner that sits on the floor, or we could move.

A few weeks ago, I was wandering around Costco waiting for my leaky tire to be fixed and I came upon this .

If you have never watched them, they are awesome. Both Shane and I watched them growing up. I can remember going to the little video store down the road and picking them out one by one to rent. They were so…weird. But so awesome! They have so many famous people in them, too. I was surprised to see how many people were in them as I looked at it the other day.

They are seriously very good and I hope to get them sometime in the near future so that I can watch them again. (I hope I still think they are cool….)

I am afraid to write about what I am about to write about because I know that Shane will bring it up to me in the future during one of my weaker moments, but I think that I have to confess.

I am a cookie addict.

I can’t help myself. And because I cannot help myself, the ingredients for making cookies and any tempting prepackaged cookies will no longer reside in my house. Except for Ethan’s cookies. Which I sometimes help myself to. I will just have to exercise self control.

So, lately, the winning recipe:

Preheat oven to 350

1 cup peanut butter (creamy OR chunky…both work well) 1 cup sugar 1 egg

Mix it all together, place on ungreased cookie sheet. Smoosh them criss-crossed with a fork dipped in sugar. Bake 8-10 minutes. Quick, easy, and way to tasty.

Someone please enjoy them for me. Shane will never let me make them again after my confession. I am sure he already knew I was a cookie monster. It was just unspoken until now.

It is official. I think I am done with Victoria’s Secret.

I have never spent much money there. I think their undergarments and sleep wear are way over priced. I have actually given them a try in the undergarment department and was willing to spend that much money on a bra if it felt heavenly. It didn’t feel heavenly so I have gone elsewhere and found others for half the price that feel at least as close to heaven as Victoria’s do.

So the other day I get a coupon in the mail from them. It was for a free pair of cotton panties. No purchase necessary. I debated on whether it was worth it to go to the mall and redeem them. I decided to go today. I walked in with my coupon.

“Excuse me, I have this coupon for free cotton panties. Where would I find them at?”

“You give the coupon at the register when you are done shopping and they will give it to you.”

Well, I am not buying anything. Even if I wanted to, I can’t. I go up to the register. I explain to the girl I have the coupon as I hand it to her.

“You aren’t going to buy anything?”

No, I am not. And she turns into rude Victoria’s Secret girl. She goes from smiley-happy salesgirl to you-are-wasting-my-time-and-are-not-fit-to-be-in-our-shop salesgirl. She goes over and starts rummaging through these bins. I request a small. There are only grandma panties is small, she more or less says, implying that I would never want them. I then ask for a medium (they will be comfy…). Same with the mediums. Only larges, do I want a large? Why does she have that look on her face and why is she being such a brat? It was a free pair of panties. Give me a break! She offers me the coupon back and I leave feeling totally retarded and unaccepted by Victoria and her little associates.

Ethan enjoyed playing with the coupon for a good 10 minutes. He kept saying “lady” because of the lady on it. The lady dressed in only a pair of cotton panties.

So Victoria, I am officially done.

We have a pet spider. I first noticed him on the TV screen the other night. I was too lazy to get up and smoosh him. And he is a daddy long legs. And I have heard daddy long legs are good spiders. So today, he was on Donald Duck while Ethan and I were watching the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse or whatever it’s called. I called to Shane who was in the kitchen and asked him to please remove the spider from Donald’s tail feathers. He attempted to do so only to find that the spider is inside the TV. He was crawling on the inside of the screen. He is stuck and we can’t get rid of him. Shane proceeded to flick at him until he crawled his way all the way up and we could no longer see him (Ethan stood and watched and I am sure will be flicking the TV tomorrow). Our TV is huge and was free. It is a hand-me-down and pretty old. I guess there is a lot of space in there and the spider is living it up. We thought we had a few cracks on the screen, but now we are pretty sure they are spider webs. I don’t know. It is kind of weird and annoying. At least it isn’t a fly. What is the life span of a daddy long legs?

Ethan has a little bit of a cold. Snotty nose and coughing at night. I kind of saw it coming after another little boy with a somewhat snotty nose at church on Sunday took a sip out of Ethan’s sippy cup and shared many toys with Ethan throughout the morning. I wiped the cup with a baby wipe, but he still caught it. It isn’t too bad-he is still full of energy, he just needs his nose wiped every now and then.

The bummer about it is that we were supposed to go over to Mandy and Ryan Yingsts today to see their new little baby girl Amelia Mae. She is just over a week old and I was really looking forward to seeing her. And holding her. We did get a chance to see her the day after she was born in the hospital, so it really isn’t that big of a deal, but I was looking forward to it. Oh well. Maybe next week. They are all doing well and if we ever make it over there, I will try to post a picture.

This was my Mother’s Day present. I was shocked and totally excited. It is so cute and pink and I love it! Thanks, Ethan.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Yesterday was a big day for me. I got myself a library card.

It started with my need to have Life of Pi in my possession for this month’s book reading. I looked at Costco. I looked at Target. I looked at Walmart. Couldn’t find it. I looked at a used book store. I didn’t want to pay full price at the bookstore for it (although at that point, it would have been worth it for the time I had put into searching for it). I didn’t want to wait for it from amazon (plus I would have ended up spending a lot more to get free shipping). I also wasn’t 100% sold on the book. Do I really even want to read it? So. The library. They are very high tech these days. You can renew online! How great is that? We got a lot of books for Ethan, which excited me (and kind of grossed Shane out). I looked for my book and couldn’t find it. Ethan started loosing his cool, so we were about to leave. As I checked out, the ever-helpful librarian offered to get the only copy they had in stock at the time for me. The large print edition. I thought, why not? It will make me feel like I am reading it really fast. So, I am reading the large print version of Life of Pi and I am already over 100 pages into it, thanks to the large print.

I liked the library and I think they have a lot to offer for kids, so I am excited to go back (maybe by myself) to investigate a little further what they have there. I can remember summers growing up and being a part of the library read-a-thon. I flew through those books. I couldnt’ get the books fast enough. I am really encouraging reading with Ethan and he loves books at this point. I hope our love for reading is past on to him. Maybe he will get to take part in the read-a-thon some day.

One of Ethan’s “new things” is to say hi to everything. Not people…things. And he does it all the time. Just now, he is eating an enchilada: “Hi Lada!” but he does this cute little voice inflection. Others we hear often are “Hi, potty!” and one of my favorites that is often stuck in my head, “Hi, Nemo!” I will be at work and catch myself almost saying it out loud.

It has been over a month now since I have worked an extra shift. I think I have mentioned my work situation before…I am scheduled to work two days a week and i anticipate picking up an extra shift every two weeks (for time and a half). For the last year, they would call every day to see if I wanted to work an extra shift, we were so short of nurses. Well, we’re not anymore. They hired a few people, people came back from maternity leave and so on and now we have too many nurses. So they never call.

It is possibly an answer to prayer. That is what we are thinking and hoping. We have been praying since Ethan was born that I could work less or not at all and currently I am working less. It is awesome. However, we are kind of depending on that money I was bringing in. So either God is going to provide us with money in some other way or maybe I will get to work extra again in the near future. For now, I am trying to enjoy every minute I get to be home with Ethan and appreciate that I have been blessed with this little break.
