It is beginning to get really hot around here and I am not sure what we are going to do about our house. It is 82 degrees inside right now, which is warm, but not too bad, but before long I know it is going to get unbearable. Now that we are all home a majority of the time, we are going to need to figure something out to keep us cooler. We have fans, but they just seem to blow hot air around and unless you sit with your face right in front of them, it isn’t too much of a help. We have an air conditioner in one wall in the living room, but it basically does the same thing as the fan. Our windows are too narrow for window air conditioners, so they won’t work. We looked into central air, but it would cost several thousand dollars. When we are suffering in 100 degree heat in the house, I would be willing to spend a million dollars to make it cooler. It is something we need to figure out.
I got the fans out today. Ethan is deathly afraid of them. He really didn’t like it and any time we would go near it, he would wimper and climb me.
So, we could splurge and have central air conditioning installed, we could get a portable air conditioner that sits on the floor, or we could move.

I feel for you and the hot weather! It is no fun to be sweaty in your own house. Fortunately for us, electricity isn’t quite as expensive in our area and so we use the air conditioner through out the whole summer. Having to install central air conditioning seems rough, maybe a portable one wouldn’t be so bad. Anything helps when your hot!!

Here in Nashville, everyone has AC. We run it all the time in the summer to keep the house around 70 (68 at night). But, things are cheaper here. We don’t have electricity woes like you Californians. Even if you dropped the couple grand to install the system, it wouldn’t be free after that. I wonder what it would cost your per month to keep it on? We were actually talking about this this weekend at a friend’s house (while sitting in the air conditioning) and how we didn’t have AC in CA and the methods we used for relief from the heat. Eric mentioned Matt’s family having a rather efficient attic fan thing. Our friend Kris said his family in FL had one and that it was ten times better than the box fans. Check into the attic-fan-thing.

I think if your computer is shutting down because of the heat that it is time to invest in an air conditioner. Shane is working at home and needs his computer. Central air is probably the best bet. You can switch it on and keep things closed up to keep the cool air in, and maybe be able to only have it on part of the day. It will be a great asset when you sell the house, but if it gets any hotter and you are trying to sell the house, forget it! Call South Coast and get a bid.It can’t hurt, and if you move on it now youu won’t have to wait.

Tisra-the attic thing wouldn’t really work becauase we don’t have an attic. We have a tiny little crawl space above the hallway and that’s it. And we have no insulation, so this place either bakes in the summer or freezes in the winter. We went out yesterday to look at portable ACs that can cool a room and you can move them around. We could use it in the office for Shane, but I am still worried about Ethan as he tries to sleep and play throughout the day. Ughhh….
