Ethan and I were walking at the beach in Carlsbad today with some friends from church and there were a lot of surfers out. We noticed a guy with a longboard surfing with his little girl-on the same board. She was probably 6 or 7. He would stand up when they caught the wave, then she would stand up and hold his hand as they surfed. It was awesome. And then, they did the most awesome thing ever. She stood up on her dad’s shoulders as they surfed. It was unbelievable. I can’t believe what a cool dad and little girl they were! And what a great memory to have from growing up. Not only that you surfed with your dad, but would do crazy tricks like that. It was amazing.
I should probably give a little Ethan update as well:
He is adjusting pretty well. He crawls or crab walks around the house, trying to stand up frequently and is happy a majority of the time. He still isn’t quite his happy go lucky self, but I don’t blame him. Things aren’t easy when you can’t walk or understand why you have this hard thing stuck to your leg. It’s a bummer, but he is doing better. He is also teething and it is so bad he will hardly eat anything at all. I feel so bad for the kid. He is very strong and very brave.

I feel like I have bugs crawling around in my lungs. Initially, my allergies were terrible, but now I am thinking I may have a little bit of a cold. My head is congested, nose is stuffed, and I have a bit of a cough. And of course, the bugs in my lungs. I searched for “bugs crawling in lungs” on google with no matches. No one else ever feels like that? The only thing it brought up was “bugs crawling under skin” from using heroin. Not quite the same. Last night it was really bad and I had trouble sleeping. I don’t know what it is that makes it feel like that, but I think it is the perfect description of how it feels. The only thing that makes it feel better momentarily is if Shane or myself rub really hard on my back. I am hoping it goes away soon. I did feel a little better today than yesterday.
Today is my mom’s birthday. We spent the morning driving around Fallbrook to various Barn Sales. We didn’t buy too much, but it was fun to look around. It was various barns set up with furniture and things that were for sale. Mostly furniture. I have always wanted to go to Flea Markets or Antiquing or whatever you might call it where you might happen upon a treasure and this was the closest that I have come to it. It was fun and I really wish I had needed some furniture or had room for more. I did find an old red chair that I was tempted to buy ( It was $35) to put on the front porch, but I had no way to get it home and I could invision the look on Shane’s face had I been able to bring it home. There was also a nice red head and foot board that would have been cool for Ethan, but it isn’t quite time yet, so I held back. It was only $65 and I bet I could have talked them down. I bought two old white porcealin covered tin cups, one with a red rim and one with a blue rim. I was excited to find them and that they were $3 each. I bought a little crystal candy dish for $3, a black clutch purse for $3, and a very pretty green picture frame that I am going to turn into a chalkboard frame, I think (it was $10). Lots of cute stuff and so fun to look around. Ethan was a trooper, as always, and we had a great morning.
Shane is going to paint our fence tomorrow while I am at work so much of the afternoon was spent outside cutting back plants so the fence was exposed. It was hard work. We had an ivy plant that had become one with the fence and it was brutal trying to get it off. It was hot and it was hard work, but it is going to look awesome once it is painted. He is also going to finish up the wall, then all that will be left is the house. I can’t wait till it is all done. It is so hard to find time to work on the house, we are so busy. There is always so much to be done. It will be a busy and tiring day tomorrow. But hopefully bug-free.

Barnes and Noble is almost on my “list.”
Let me explain:
I have this problem. This bathroom problem. I wait until the last minute to go to the bathroom and when I finally get there, I can barely hold it long enough to get my pants down in time. It’s especially bad if I am wearing a belt. I don’t think I have a small bladder, really, I just drink a ton of water and other drinks throughout the day and I have to go a lot.
So, today, I was going out to run errands. I went to the bathroom before I left so that I would not get caught in an uncomfortable position (ie: nearly wetting my pants in the car or any where, really). We left, I got Ethan’s pictures taken, and then I decided to head over to Barnes and Noble.
After our venture to the library, there were two books Ethan couldn’t bear to part with, so I decided to buy them for him. We usually go to Barnes and Noble only to look around and make sure we really want a book before we buy it, and purchase our books on Amazon, but the two books were the same price on Amazon as at the store, and I figured I would buy them there and save the shipping and waiting. They had Good Night, Gorilla there, so we got that one. They did not have Poppy and Max. The lady at the help desk offered to order it for me and I thought, why not? They would call me when it came in and I would just run down and pick it up. I ordered it 2 weeks ago. Last week, I called. My order had been “confirmed” and it would be there any time. They would call me. Today, it is still confirmed and will be here any time and they will call me. Where do we live that it takes 2 weeks to order a book? Where are they getting the book from? It’s ridiculous. So, I am wishing I had ordered them both from Amazon mostly because Barnes and Noble lags so badly. I am tempted to just order it and when they call, say I don’t want it anymore. That would show them.
But back to the bathroom issue. (I had to set the scene). Leaving JC Penney, I had to pee. I decided I would drive to Barnes and Noble, use the bathroom and then take care of the Poppy and Max. business. It was an ordeal trying to get in the two doors of the store (getting into stores with strollers is always a difficult task). We wheeled back to the bathroom. As I am walking to the door, this older lady is right in front of me. We walk into the bathroom (again I struggle with the door). Remember, I have to go. The lady walks into the handicapped/baby changing station/I-have-a-stroller-with-me stall. Now, she is older, but I don’t think she was hadicapped. And she took forever. Forever. I was waiting and waiting. She was still taking forever. Ethan wanted up, wanted to wash his hands. I finally wheeled him up to one of the other stalls and went to the bathroom with the door slightly opened, hoping no one would come in. I was done, hands washed, out the door before the handicapped stall lady had even flushed. I don’t know what she was doing in there, but I probably wouldn’t have wanted to follow her. So, this has nothing to do with Barnes and Noble really, but it just seasoned my whole experience. And it reinforced the lesson that one should not use the handicapped bathroom unless entitled to it (or you can go really, really fast).

Man. My allergies are killing me. Even claritin, which I have been taking every day lately, is not cutting it. I don’t know what the deal is. I never had a problem with allergies growing up, but they have become progressively worse these last few years. On Sunday, I was really feeling it and decided I would try a little benadryl. It knocked me out. Well, I felt knocked out, but I still went to church and did what I needed to do. No more benadryl unless I am planning on sleeping. I am just waiting for “allergy season” to end. When does it end? I don’t even know what I am allergic to.

When Shane and I got married, we were given something from Crate & Barrell that I didn’t really like so we returned it. As we walked around the store searching for something to spend our store credit on, we decided we would buy an ice cream maker. Kind of silly, but homemade ice cream! It sounded good. We used it a few times. One time I made vanilla ice cream and put M&Ms in it. The colored coating melted off and made the vanilla ice cream and brown color and the M&Ms were just chocolate chunks.
When we moved into our house, the ice cream maker was stowed away in a cabinet in the kitchen. 2 1/2 years later, I was cleaning the kitchen and there it was. I thought I better get it out and make something and get our money’s worth. I found the directions and so far I have made the best ever peach frozen yogurt. It is so very good and I don’t know how we have survived without it all these years. I just made some for a Father’s Day treat.
Here is the recipe (if you have an ice cream maker handy)
1-15 oz can of peaches pureed (with a 1/2 cup of the syrup the peaches are in)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup of the peach syrup
2 cups lowfat vanilla yogurt
Mix it all together, then put it in the ice cream maker (I mix it in the maker for 25 minutes)
It is so creamy and good. If you ever want to come over, I can make it for you! Just let me know!
So, the ice cream maker was a good buy.

Ethan and I were sitting out on the grass today blowing bubbles and he leaned over and touched my teeth.
“Teeth,” he said. “Yellow teeth.”
Everything is yellow to him. The grass is yellow. The sky is yellow. It still made me a little self conscious, though.

Shane and I were hitched six years ago today.
It seems like it has gone by so fast. I remember the year leading up to it seemed like the longest year of my life. It seemed to take longer for that year to go by than it has for these past six years. So much has happened, so much has changed. We are a little bit older, we have lived many different places, traveled all over, worked here and there, graduated from college, bought a house, had a kid. A ton of stuff has happened. No wonder it has flown by. We are a family and I wouldn’t want to be with anyone else than my two guys. I am truly happy.

Did anyone know you could buy caskets at Costco.com? Can you return it if you don’t like it?
I think I like the Mother Casket by Universal the best. Also the most affordable.
Very odd.
