On my way home from church today I was thinking about how Shane and I would write each other notes all of the time when were friends in High School and then later when we were dating. Writing nnotes was a very common thing to do back then and I was wondering if kids today still do that or if the note writing has kind of dropped off with email and text messaging and so on. I know we still have many of those notes we wrote to each other stuffed away somewhere and I can remember finding Shane’s car in the parking lot at Palomar College and leaving a note under his windshield wiper. Or coming out to my car after class and finding a note under mine. It was always so exciting to have a note to read and I loved it. Even when we were away from each other a while, we would write and either by mail or other people have the notes delivered to each other. It was cool and I enjoyed the extra effort we put into our friendship by writing to each other.
I have had a few people over the years I have written to in note form. The others are mostly girls. As I was thinking about all of this, another note experience popped into my mind and I still am so embarrassed to this day when I think about it. I must have been in 6th or 7th grade and I liked this boy and he liked me. So, we started “going out” and proceeded to be shyer than ever and never talk to each other. I am not sure how long that went on, but I eventually wrote him a note and broke up with him. The embarrassing part was that I folded it into a little origami man (I searched to find a picture of one,but I couldn’t find it). I even folded a second blank peice of paper into pants for the man. It was weird and I think I was immediately embarrassed. I was young.
Anyway, writing notes was cool.
