Tomorrow we are heading down to San Diego to get Tegan’s birth certificate. Having a baby outside of a hospital makes for a lot of red tape to obtain a birth certificate. While in the hospital, we were informed that because she wasn’t born there, they couldn’t get her birth certificate for us. We had to take care of it ourselves. It has taken 7 weeks to get all of the paperwork together and await our appointment to get the thing.

So, if you have a baby before you make it to the hospital in California and it wasn’t planned, this is what you need:

1)The baby, which must be brought to the appointment

2)A witness to the birth with their ID (No witness, you have to go to family court to prove it.)

3)The mother’s ID or passport or something

4)Three proofs of residency, 2 before the birth, 1 after the birth (ie: bills or statements with mother’s name and address on them as well as the date issued.)

5)The paramedics report stating what they did and that they cut the cord (the initial report didn’t state that and we had to wait for them to write an addendum to the initial report.)

6)Mother’s hospital record stating what they did there and that the placenta was delivered there.

7)A note from the doctor on official letterhead with doctor’s original signature stating mother was pregnant, due date, last menstural period, verification through ultrasound.

I think that is it. That is more than enough. Quite a headache and enough for me to make every effort to make it to the hospital before the baby is born next time (if there is a next time….)

Tegan slept eight hours in a row last night. Tobed at 10 and up at 6. Unbelievable. I hope it wasn’t a one time thing. I could get used to that.

We are trying to potty train Ethan. Big boy pants, potty treats, trips to the bathroom every twenty minutes. I hope he gets the hang of it soon. We have only had a few accidents, but that is with me taking him to the bathroom every twenty minutes. If he were on his own, it wouldn’t be happening.

Wish us luck!

The comment spam I usually get offer me psychiatric meds at affordable prices. I get the occasional nasty ones, but today I had the best one: Mouse power cars trap. What is that?? I didn’t mind that one as much. What was the point, though? I don’t get spam.

6 weeks old

Every time I think I have a minute to write something, I end up spending 10 minutes deleting comment spam and I lose my chance. I am so sick of comment spam. I get a ton of it. I don’t know what options I have to prevent it from happening…I know blogger has that word verification system, but I don’t have blogger. I guess I need to bring it up with my computer guy.

Tegan is growing like a weed. She had her 6 week check up and weighed 9 pounds 14 ounces. She was already 22 inches long. She gained 3 pounds 6 ounces and grew 3 inches in six weeks. She still looks tiny. She is waking up some and actually slept 6 hours in a row last night. That was the most sleep I have gotten in a row since she arrived. It was great. Her jaundice has resolved so her yellow tint is gone. She is a lot of fun. We are eagerly awaiting smiles. She has started talking a little bit, which is a lot of fun. All is well and time is flying. I am half way through my maternity leave. Not sure how I feel about that. I know it will be really hard to go back and leave the kids all day, but I still have six more weeks at home. I am so thankful to be able to be home as long as I am. Lucky, lucky.

So, it happened to me today. I ran into someone at Costco. A lady who used to go to our church when I was growing up and I used to babysit her kids. I never really liked them that much, especially after her 7 year old daughter had me close my eyes and then proceeded to put a Barbie butt up to my mouth and then laughed hysterically that I had kissed Barbie’s butt. It is funny now, but I was irritated with her at the time. Anyway, she feigned interest in knowing what we were up to, said she could see what we were up to as she pointed to Ethan (I thought), and then asked how far along I was. I kind of misunderstood and said Tegan was 6 weeks. I then got what she was saying when she couldn’t believe I was six months along. Nice. You just don’t do that. Not even when someone is obviously pregnant. It made me like her even more. I know I have some weight to lose, but man! I do not look pregnant for a second. I like her even less now.

Tegan’s baby quilt, originally uploaded by Ladygirl.

Tegan is on her beautiful baby quilt her Grammie made her in this picture. I love it. Tegan does too! Grammie embroidered the words to the song “I Will” by the Beatles on each of the white strips. It is a lovely song and a lovely quilt for a lovely girl.

Here is the quilt I made for my friend’s birthday. I love it. I want to keep it. I think it turned out awesome and I am hoping she will love it as much as I do.

Four weeks old today and still a very sleepy girl. She is so mellow and- dare I say it- easy. I hope she stays that way. She is precious!

We went to the Wild Animal Park a week ago. Ethan was comparing his wing span to the condors in this shot. I think he is so cute!
