Mother’s Day just passed and my birthday is six months away and that makes me sad. I found this today and I really want it. I may just have to save up and buy it for myself. I don’t know if I want to wait until December.

Today was not so good. It started out ok. I went to visit a friend that I haven’t seen in a while and Ethan played with her daughter. As I was leaving, she commented on how she liked our new car. She asked if we had had any problems with it. Nope. No problems.

Got home, put Ethan to bed. Went to my moms to pick up some sugar (I am out, I have no money, I will borrow sugar). They are gone for the weekend. I pulled in, parked all crooked, rolled down the windows since I decided to leave Tegan in the car as I ran inside. I grabbed the sugar, ran back out. Car won’t start. Car is stuck in park, can’t turn the wheel, nothing is happening. Very bad. Luckily, I have the stroller. Tegan and I walk home. Ethan is FREAKING OUT. He won’t go to sleep, he is very upset. We stick to our guns and make him take a nap and can’t deal with the car till he wakes up. At five Shane heads over to check out the car and he comes back not happy at all. Can’t get it started. He goes in the garage to take his truck over and his truck won’t start. Yep. The truck won’t start! It has been a while since we drove it and maybe the battery is dead?

So, it is officially Memorial Day weekend and who will work on cars till Tuesday? How can we even get my car anywhere when it is stuck in park? What is happening to our cars? It is very frustrating and puts a lot of stress on Shane’s and my relationship. I am carless and stuck at home with the kids till this is resolved since we don’t fit in any of our other cars. Not sure what we are going to do about it. Today was not a happy day despite the little birdies.

Happy Memorial Day weekend!

UPDATE:

Two car batteries later and everything is A-OK. My dad’s friend from church who fixes cars came over and fixed us up. I am much relieved and in much better spirits today. Thank the Lord that is all that it was.

We have baby birdies and they are bringing me joy every hour of the day. They are so very sweet! The nest is at the corner of our eave pretty close to the front door and every hour (at least), their mama comes and feeds them. They chirp so wildly with their little baby bird voices and it makes me smile every time. We are all getting a kick out of it. Even the cat.

Sitting up in her little bumbo seat. This lasted about two seconds and then she started crying. Still a little bit young for it, but so very cute!

Tonight, I cooked our crock pot for dinner. I mean, I literally cooked our crock pot. I turned the burner on and melted the crock pot. It is stinky like plastic on our house now and set the fire alarm off which kind of freaked out Ethan. Luckily dinner is not ruined. Why was it on the burner, you ask? Because the only plug I can use to use the crock pot is next to the stove and the only place to put the crock pot is on the burner while it is in use. I just turned on the wrong burner. Which I do all of the time, for some reason, despite the handy pictures they provide to ensure you use the right burner. I don’t know if I will buy a new crock pot. I have only used it half a dozen times in the last 7 years. What a stinky mess.

I have been considering putting Ethan in preschool at some point in the future. Especially because I am going back to work in just a little over a month and our wonderful mothers will be watching the kids again. I am very aware of how much work this will be for them and Ethan going to “school” for half the day would greatly lighten the load, but I also think he would really enjoy it. He loves his class at church and he does great there. He is a big helper and a better listener than at home. Anyway. today I passed the church where I went to elementary school and my brother Andrew went to preschool a milllion years ago and they are enrolling for the fall. They only have enrollment in the fall and they fill up fast. They currently only have two Tuesday-Thursday spots left. After that, you have to go on a waiting list until someone drops out. I have heard it is one of the best ones around, it is really close, and it is a place that I have fond memories of (although I am sure it is very different now). I think we could afford it, especially if I worked an extra shift every month or two. It is a little sooner than I had planned on sending him (I was thinking of after the new year), but I think we will pray about it and go from there. It’s a big step for all of us!

It’s May 7th and it is 91 degrees outside. The wind is hot. The only good thing about it is that our house is only 89 degrees. It usually is hotter than the temperature outside when the temperature gets up like this.

Two bad things:

1) I have NO SHORTS. I have NO SKIRTS. Nothing fits me and I AM HOT!

2) This summer is going to suck. It is going to be hotter than hot in this house. I am going to have a miserable husband who is trying to work in the heat with a computer that keeps shutting down because it will explode if it runs another second in 100 degree weather and two miserable, unhappy little children who probably won’t nap because it will be too hot for them. I won’t be able to handle it. Something must be done.

Maybe I will fit into my shorts by summer. That would be nice. Or I could buy some new shorts, I guess.

So we went to Disneyland yesterday. One of my best friends, Monique, gave us free tickets, free parking, and a $20 food voucher that she couldn’t use so we couldn’t pass it up. (By the way-I gave Monique her quilt and she loved it. She hugged and thanked me a million times and nearly cried.) I had wanted to take Ethan to Disneyland right before he turned three and before we had to pay $53 to get him in. Yes, a child’s ticket is $53. Sick. I was thinking we would go in November, but free tickets now sounded a lot better. So we went and my other best friend ever Georgia came with us. Ethan wouldn’t stop talking about going to Disneyland on Saturday and occasionally would cry because he wanted to go today (today being the days before Saturday). So, we get there. The kid is freaked out and wants to go home. He is a scaredy cat in general, but he was very freaked out by the place. It was initially discouraging, but I think it was just big and loud and overwhelming. We basically forced him to go on each ride we went on. He would whine and cry a little bit, but usually was ok once we were on the ride. He didn’t care for Pinocchio (which I agree was a little freaky) and It’s a Small World (also freaky and LONG). The only ride he actively wanted to go on was the teacups. Weird. He wanted to be in a pink cup (his favorite color) and I had to run to make sure we did in fact get a pink cup. He held his hands up in the air when we went down the little water fall in Pirates of the Caribbean and seemed ok with it. He was pretty much dead serious the whole day, I hope we didn’t scar him for life by forcing him to go on the rides. The kid loves Legoland so I don’t know what the deal was.

I had mentioned to my mom that I wanted to look for a cup for him like these ones Andrew and I had growing up while on a walk a few days before we went there. He informed me later that he was going to get a special cup at Disneyland. The boy is smart. We decided to go on one last ride (Peter Pan) and I told him we would go on the ride, find his cup, then go home. The first thing he said as he got off the ride was “Yay, now we can go get my cup and go home!” He loves his overpriced Mickey cup and I think it will be many years until we will return with him to Disneyland. If we are going to pay for it, he will have to appreciate it and Space Mountain will have to be ridden.

Rides ridden by Ethan:
Dumbo,
Carousel,
Pinocchio,
Teacups,
Pirates of the Caribbean,
Haunted Mansion,
Jungle Cruise,
Storybook Land Canal Boats, and
Peter Pan

Characters hugged:
Mickey and Minnie

Characters approached tentatively:
Goofy

All rides except Dumbo, the carousel, and teacups were ridden by Tegan (who slept through the whole Disneyland experience.)

The last thing I want to mention about the day-Ethan had dry pants all day long. ALL DAY LONG! I had spent the last week taking him to the potty every 20 minutes. He still was having accidents. I didn’t think we were getting anywhere. We occasionally took him to the bathroom there and he kept his diaper dry. Even today, only one accident (probably our fault). I was and am amazed. Maybe he is getting it???
