I went to a baby shower about a month ago and it was at a friend’s house who lives in a neighborhood much unlike my neighborhood. Meaning there are sidewalks, mostly, and people in the neighborhood interact, I guess. She actually lives on a cul de sac. Anyway, I was leaving the shower and this little boy (maybe 7 or so) and a girl (maybe 9) walk up to me.

The little boy says,”Excuse me, madam.” Madam! I have never before been called madam. It made me smile and chuckle inside.

He proceeded to try to sell me some foam sticker creations they had made. You know those foam stickers that are everywhere now? Well, they had Valentine’s conversation hearts ones and had taken them and stuck them to another larger heart and there you go. Small ones a quarter, big ones 50 cents. I had to buy one because he called me madame. I couldn’t help myself. So, I am looking through his collection in his tupperware bowl. He offers me one that says “Email me” several times-I am guessing he thought that was the coolest one. I had a dollar so I bought two-both said “I heart U” but heart being an actual heart. One was all pink, because the little boy who would be given the heart is very partial to pink. I think I disappointed the kid a little bit because I bought two of the same saying and neither was “Email me” but in the end he was happy because they made a dollar. I was happy I had a dollar because it’s not everyday you get called madam.

I thought I would post a little sleep update. The last three nights, only up twice. Once around 11ish or so and then at 3 or 4. Not so bad. I can totally do that. I am so very thankful. I needed her to sleep. She has been sleeping in the pack and play in the office. Shane has only woken her up once (I was not happy). What else can I do, though? It’s the office, our room, or in with Ethan and I am not ready for that yet. I am once again itching for a bigger house. Who knows what is in the year to come….

We are having sleeping issues here. I am not getting to sleep much lately. Tegan had been in our room in a bassinet until about a week. ago I thought maybe the bassinet was getting too small or there were too many people in our room making too much noise and waking each other up. Sometimes she would just be awake-not crying, but it still would wake me up and keep me up until I either put her back to sleep or she fell asleep herself. So a week ago, I put her pack and play together in the office, which is not ideal at all. There isn’t much room for it in there and Shane needs to be in there working when she is sleeping, but I wanted to try it out and there really isn’t anywhere else for her to go. The first two night-awesome. She was up twice and then once the next night. Quite a difference from 4-5 times, which is where we had been. But since then, we are back to the 4 or 5 times and I have a longer walk now. My neck feels constantly stiff from sitting up with her in bed feeding (and falling asleep like that sometimes). I don’t know what to do. I think she is too little to let her cry herself back to sleep, but I am tired. I wouldn’t mind getting up once or twice at all. Every two hours is hard, though. Especially when I have to work the next day. I am thinking of leaving the fan on all night…white noise? We’ll see. Tomorrow I work, so it is worth a try. I don’t know what else to do other than letting her sleep next to me-she sleeps great that way, but I still don’t sleep so well and I really don’t want to get into that habit. So, I will try the fan and we’ll see.

I had forgotten about my obsession with The Baby-Sitters Club books until I saw this blog. Very funny. I don’t think I ever really thought Claudia dressed that cool. I always thought she was a bit odd. Reading about it now is even crazier than it was back then. Ah, the 80s. I don’t know how far I got into the series, but I read a lot of those books. I would grab the next one the minute it came out and be done with it the next day. I wonder what happened to all those books. I am embarrassed to admit it, but a few of my friends and I even tried to start a babysitters club of our own. I did a lot of babysitting. $2.00 an hour. Big bucks.

Dearest Tisra tagged me with one of these “things about me” and I have never done one before. I have been trying to think of things ever since and I thought I would give it a try. I am not going to tag anyone (breaking the rules…) because a) I don’t know 8 people who blog (at least not personally) and b) just like I cannot bring myself to forward emails, I just don’t want to put anyone out or put them on the spot. If you read this and you want to follow suit, go for it, but no pressure.

The rules:

  1. I have to post these rules before I give you the facts.

  2. Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.

  3. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.

  4. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.

  5. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

So, here are eight things about me:

  1. I have this habit of clicking my teeth together into songs. Kind of like humming or whistling. I tap my teeth. My mouth is closed when I do it and I just tap out the song while I sing it in my head. I didn’t really notice I did it until I went to the dentist recently and he said he thought I grind my teeth in my sleep. I started thinking about it and I am pretty sure I don’t grind them (I wouldn’t admit to it if I did-that is one of the things I hate the most-teeth grinding), but I did notice that I do this tapping thing all of the time and it often involves the teeth I am supposedly grinding. So, I tap my teeth.

  2. I have an awful sweet tooth. I love all things sweet.

  3. I can tread water for a really long time. I don’t know how long and I didn’t realize I was good at it until a bunch of us were doing it one day and I out tread everyone.

  4. Back when Shane and I were just friends, I had him believing I was born in Mexico. I don’t remember the story, but I had him convinced and I think he actually told someone that I was and that’s when I had to come out with the truth. I am not a good liar so I don’t know how I convinced him.

  5. I have grandma hands. I have extremely dry skin and wrinkly hands and feet because of it. I am pretty much over it and don’t even think about it very often, but when I was little, it was often pointed out by other kids.

  6. I have had my toenails painted since high school (13 years). I tried to leave them unpainted and they are so yellow from nail polish that they always end up repainted. I even brought nail polish to our 8 week trip to Europe to keep them up. They don’t always look great, but they have some sort of color on them.

  7. I broke my sons leg when he was 18 months old. He was on my lap, going down a slide because I thought it would be safer than going down on his own. Not so. 4 weeks in a full leg cast in the hottest weather of the year.

  8. I gave birth to our daughter in our bathroom by the cat box on accident. You know the story.

The last two are kind of lame, but I was having a hard time thinking of things and I know if I don’t finish this now, I might not get back to it. So, there you go. I am sure I will think of better ones after I post this, so maybe I will add some on later….

That’s all!

Here is Georgia’s early birthday present. It isn’t the best picture, but it will have to do. I love it. It is simple, but I really liked the fabrics and the quilting on it. I love the back, too. It is pink and beige-ish toile. Very pretty. Maybe someday soon I will make myself a quilt. Maybe by the end of the year…we’ll see.

July 5, 2007

Happy 5th of July! We had a great day yesterday hanging out with some friends in their lovely back yard and pool. The weather was excellent and Ethan was in the pool and then “the tub” (known to the rest of us as the spa) from about 4 to 8. There were lots of friends there to play with him (adult friends) and I didn’t have to do much for him. It was a nice break. Tegan took a dip in the pool for the first time in her matching bathing suit bottoms and sun hat, but of course, our camera was not packed in any of the five bags of stuff we brought with us. It was a bummer.

We hiked twenty minutes or so up this dirt hill to see fireworks-myself carrying a 37 pound 2 1/2 year old. It was the workout of the century and I am very sore from it today. Ethan was very hesitant about the fireworks and it was probably good that we were quite a ways away from them or he might not have made it through the display, but it was just right and he kept calling them “June and July” instead of “the fourth of July.” When I would correct him, he would ask me “where did June go?” He also wanted to know several times “Where the fireworks work.” “In the sky”, I told him. He was very funny and he carried this cookie the whole time-so much going on, he didn’t even have time for cookies. He was very entertaining and the day was great.

One of my other highlights was a friend of our friend commenting how well behaved our children are and how did we do it? Oh, it was so nice to hear that! Especially when you feel like they can be monsters sometimes-well, not Tegan yet, really. But, it was nice to hear and they were on their best behavior and had a blast. It was a good day.

serious ballerina, originally uploaded by Ladygirl.

We started off the morning with a little dance session. Tegan thought she would try out some ballet. She took it very seriously. She eventually had fun with it, but it got a little hot and soon the onesie and tutu were off. The rest of the day was spent in her diaper. Much more comfortable. 90 degrees in our house today. Poor little Tegan. Fortunately, it was much cooler outside (and in front of the fan) which is where we spent most of our day.
