It has been a very exciting week here at the Bonham household. Mostly for Shane and I, but I am sure the kids had some fun too. After work on Monday, I came home, picked Shane up and we headed down to the Belly Up in Solana Beach to see Jose Gonzalez. It was awesome. We actually ate at a little restaurant right next door to the venue and Jose and his pals were eating at the table right next to us. The Belly Up is pretty small and it was very cozy and a great concert. He is just…amazing. He sounded great and it was a great concert. If you haven’t heard him before, you are missing out. You should go check him out. Right now.
So then Tuesday night, we shipped the kids off to their grandmother’s houses (and grandfather’s too, I guess) and we went down to 4th and B and saw Iron and Wine. Also equally amazing though not as cozy. Sam Beam has a fantastic beard and it was so cool to hear them live. They were great. Both guys are so talented and watching/listening to them just knocked me out.
Wednesday night, I went to bed early. I was so tired from being up past midnight two nights in a row! I am not as young as I used to be:)
The concerts hit the spot and I think Shane and I will probably start going to more of them. I can’t stop thinking about how much fun I had.
So, now I am in birthday mode. I have all of the ingredients for a 3D train cake and have been cleaning the house like a mad woman. I have a few more things to do, but it is all coming together. We went and bought Ethan a 2 wheeler with training wheels for the big day and it brought tears to my eyes. He is so big! It should be a fun day!

We have one week until the big 3rd birthday. I can’t believe he is almost three! It has gone so fast. I have a train party to plan and lots of little things to figure out. I have the cake tin, but no idea of how I am going to decorate it yet. Initially I was going to “build” a train and it really would have been awesome, but I decided it would be a lot of work and I just wasn’t up for it. So, train cake pan, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (cut with a train cookie cutter if I can find one) and submarine sandwiches for the grown ups. I have lots of work ahead of me. Ethan is very excited and has asked for a pine cone for his birthday. So, I also need to get a pine cone in addition to the big boy bike we have decided to get him (we made a peanut butter and birdseed pine cone a few weeks ago and he wants to make a career of it).
We had a mellow Thanksgiving. I supplied the sweet potatoes and the pumpkin pies, which after my day of preparing the pies I have decided I will always be buying my pie crusts…not worth the attempts to make them. My grandma was a pie making master. She tried to teach me, but it didn’t happen…too bad.
Tegan was up early Friday morning at 3 and cried and yelled for about an hour. I was bummed because I had to work yesterday. I couldn’t understand what her problem was. On my way to work I remembered it was Black Friday. The girl just wanted to get up and go shopping. That is what I figure, anyway. Sorry Tegan, mama has to work! I don’t know it I could ever go out in those crowds to shop and enjoy it. I thoroughly enjoy shopping, but I have no problem paying a little more money for less crowds and craziness.

Did anyone else notice that the time lady retired? You know, 853-1212? I called it the other day after the time change, just to check as I set our clocks. It’s over. She is done. How sad is that? It made me sad, anyway. And I know with all the crazy stuff nowadays, everyone probably thought that there was no need for her anymore, but I will tell you…all my clocks have different times on them now and it is driving me crazy. Which one is right?? I liked her. She was reliable. I am sad she is gone.
I have been busy lately and haven’t really had much to write about. We had our house painted and it is now the color “camelback” and white and looks much cleaner and nicer and fresher. I will post a picture, but I want to wait until we get our new door and garage door so you can see all the newness at once. Maybe I will post a before and after picture. Hopefully that will all happen soon.
Ethan has been busy and trying my patience. I am trying to be consistent and a good mommy, but sometimes it is hard. I have been praying about it a lot and reading a book that is very encouraging. It talks about how we need to be changing their hearts and not just their behaviors. It has a lot of scripture to back up it’s points and I am hoping that I can put it all into practice and be a goldly mama and raise godly children. The book is called Shepherding a Child’s Heart
Tegan is 8 months old and full on crawling. She has started getting into stuff and doesn’t like to be left alone. Still no teeth, still not sleeping so well. I tried three nights this last week to put her in her crib in with Ethan and each night, she woke up screaming. Ethan seemed to sleep through it, although he put his silkie on his head while it was all happening. The third night, I took her out and put her back in the office. I guess it could work, but I am not willing to sacrifice the other child’s sleep- Tegan waking Ethan up at night and Ethan waking Tegan up at the crack of dawn. I don’t know what to do. Any advice on this? I wish she were a better sleeper, but what can I do?
