It has been a very exciting week here at the Bonham household. Mostly for Shane and I, but I am sure the kids had some fun too. After work on Monday, I came home, picked Shane up and we headed down to the Belly Up in Solana Beach to see Jose Gonzalez. It was awesome. We actually ate at a little restaurant right next door to the venue and Jose and his pals were eating at the table right next to us. The Belly Up is pretty small and it was very cozy and a great concert. He is just…amazing. He sounded great and it was a great concert. If you haven’t heard him before, you are missing out. You should go check him out. Right now.

So then Tuesday night, we shipped the kids off to their grandmother’s houses (and grandfather’s too, I guess) and we went down to 4th and B and saw Iron and Wine. Also equally amazing though not as cozy. Sam Beam has a fantastic beard and it was so cool to hear them live. They were great. Both guys are so talented and watching/listening to them just knocked me out.

Wednesday night, I went to bed early. I was so tired from being up past midnight two nights in a row! I am not as young as I used to be:)

The concerts hit the spot and I think Shane and I will probably start going to more of them. I can’t stop thinking about how much fun I had.

So, now I am in birthday mode. I have all of the ingredients for a 3D train cake and have been cleaning the house like a mad woman. I have a few more things to do, but it is all coming together. We went and bought Ethan a 2 wheeler with training wheels for the big day and it brought tears to my eyes. He is so big! It should be a fun day!

I could “see” the spark and excitement through your writing about the concerts- good for you guys to have some couple time and go on some dates! You really sound refreshed and I can just picture your sweet Erika smile. I’m not a concert-y type, but you do make it sound lovely. :-)

Both bands are super mellow, so it wasn’t like a “normal” concert…not too loud, not too wild…it was very nice.

You should try to do this on a regular basis for the two of you.
