la comes home, originally uploaded by Ladygirl.

Here are Tegan and La. La is a kewpie doll that I had when I was about Tegan’s age. And I named her La. La has been around just about 30 years. Today, I thought we had lost La. And I was a little bit heartbroken. I was trying not to care too much because it is just “stuff” and I don’t want to get all wrapped up in being super materialistic or anything, but I was bummed. You see, Tegan loves La. You show her La and she lights up and smiles, then grabs her and gnaws on her foot.

La was last seen Wednesday, when she went shopping with us. She went to Target (where someone actually stopped me and asked me where I had found a kewpie doll). She went to Anthropologie with us and all around the shopping center where Anthropologie is located, then to lunch. Last night, I started thinking about it…hadn’t seen her in a while. I looked all over. In the car, in the kid’s room, the toy basket, every diaper bag I have. No La. I called Anthropologie. I went to Target. No La. Ethan was with me at Target and as we were leaving he asked me where she was. I told him La went to heaven. He wanted to send Tegan up there to get her. I told him the babies in heaven were getting to play with her now.

So, tonight, Ethan gets out this basket he has full of balls. As he dumps it out, there is La. And he says, “mom! La came back from heaven!”

I was so happy to see La again. I had actually looked on ebay and found one just like her and was tempted to buy it (glad I didn’t do it). I think Tegan is also glad La is back. Yay for La!

That is what I would tell you kids when you were so sad that your balloon had floated away. I was so Happy to see La had returned from her trip, and wasn’t lost anymore. It brought tears to my eyes to hear the excitement in Ethan’s voice in my mind ,when he discovered that La had been hiding in the ball basket! And of course to see this sweet picture of Tegan with little La. The only thing that surprised me is that I thought that her name was spelled Law all these years! When I bought her and gave her to you all those years ago, which seem like only a moment now, I asked you what her name was, thinking that you would name her something sweet, and you said,”La”. I was so surprised with the name that you came up with. Now “La” seems like the sweetest name. ~Mommie~

Awwwwwwwwwwwww. I think about the special things in my kids’ lives and I’d hate for them to ever loose them, but they are just “stuff”. Eric lost his blue blanket when he was about 6 and his mom still mentions how sad it was that his blankie disappeared one day. :-( Dean sleeps with my handmade toddler blanket that my Mom sewed me for preschool… it says “TISRA” inside a big turquoise heart.

Who thought she would be in the ball basket! What a sweet story. I think La knew Ethan and Tegan needed her so she came back from her “trip” to heaven. So sweet!

So sweet! I am glad you found her. I think I had one too, although I haven’t seen her in years. Actually I think my mom has her in a box in a garage, and there she will stay until I need her back. Her name was ‘baby’ - original huh? I think I played with her most in the bath tub. I should go look for her!

La it is really nice to have you back! You have such a loving family. Please try and refrain from hiding among all the toys. Seriously your time here is short and before you know it you will be put away in a box until Tegan has a little girl! Enjoy your time, enjoy the slobber, kisses and love. We are happy you have returned and prefer you not hide again. Although I would say you are the new expert at hide and seek. You Win!
