Probably about two months ago, I made a deal with Ethan. He had started biting his nails and I couldn’t do anything to get him to stop. I would try to stop him each time he did it and one day he told me he would just do it in his bed at night when I wasn’t looking. I didn’t know how I was going to get him to stop. Then, one day he was going on about how much he loves Chik-fil-a. He LOVES it. Not the food. He could care less about the food. It is their indoor playground. We have only been there a handful of times, but if Ethan had his way, we would be there every day. So, I told him if he stopped biting, we would go there to eat, on a date, and then he could go to Wal-Mart (which is right next door) and get a surprise of his choosing.

I never actually saw him bite his nails again and he was so excited about both things, but every time I checked his nails, there would be one or two that looked like they may have been chewed on a bit. Until Sunday. I checked them on Sunday and they all desperately needed to be cut. I was so happy for him and he was so proud. I told him to go show his dad and ask if he and I could go on our date that night. We had it all planned and at the last minute, he begged his dad and Tegan to go with us. It was so sweet!

So, we all head out to Chik-fil-a. We pull up. There are no cars. It’s dark. Turns out, Chik-fil-a is closed on Sundays. We tell Ethan and he is heartbroken. He cries. We tell him we will come another time and offer him other choices of places to go and include ice cream afterwards. He is beside himself. We force him to go to Wal-Mart to get a surprise (he chooses a playdough thingy) and head back out to the car. I ask him again where he would like to go…he just wants to go home.

So, in case you didn’t know, Chik-fil-a is closed on Sundays. It was a bummer and I felt so bad. He totally was over it, but I still felt really bad about it. But it was also kind of funny. I just hope he doesn’t start biting his nails again. I was shocked about how into it he was!

Ohhhh man!!!!! I was getting teary but couldn’t stop laughing at the same time!!! Poor little guy, breaks my heart that he was so upset! Yeah, I did know that place was closed on sundays, I think I heard about it on tv a long time ago. Before they came out west my mom was obsessed with them. Not because if their food per say, but because of their ‘values’ and ‘christian…ness.’ When we went to Virginia like 6 years ago my mom convinced my dad to take us all there for lunch. She was beaming the whole time and we were all like huh…it’s uhh…just fast food. Hopefully you rescheduled your date:)

Great story. I was thinking that it would be funny(?) if he bit his nails to get revenge.

All three kids bite their nails- but Lael is the worst. I never thought about an incentive for that (around here, we’re far more focused on the thumb sucking that they all do). But, I’ll try.
