I bought Ethan and Tegan new tooth brushes recently and Ethan ended up with this Thomas toothbrush that sings for two minutes while you brush. Brushing has become a very popular time in our house. Tegan will yell “Thomas!” and run into the bathroom and shriek and dances for the entire two minutes with the biggest smile on her face. It makes us laugh every time. She is just so cute!
Here is a baby quilt I made and gave to my dear friend Kacy and her sweet little baby Skyler. I love the colors and fabrics in this so much! I want to cuddle up on it!!
And in addition to the reading, he is writing his letter like crazy. I got this dry erase placemat for a dollar at Target and we have already got our money’s worth. He will sit there for a half an hour, writing letters, erasing them and then writing them again. He doesn’t get the direction for writing them exactly right and he doesn’t always hold the pen right either, but he is so enthralled by it all and it is a great time filling activity. And he does a really good job!
We recently bought a few of the Leapfrog movies (We have 4 of them now) and he just can’t get enough of them. I am 100% sure that they are the reason he knows the sounds and the actual letters themselves. We would go over and over them, but it wasn’t until the movies that he actually was interested enough to actually get it. We still need some work on the lower case letters, but I am impressed and just so glad he wants to learn. Man, he is getting big!
Ethan has had a crazy week. A little over a week ago, I got home from work and I was informed that Ethan was reading. Yep, reading. He picked Hop on Pop for his bedtime book and proceeded to start sounding out words and read about all of the three letter words in the book. I was shocked. The next morning, he spent about 15 minutes reading words to me. It is so precious, watching his little mind work as he sounds out the words. Then he got sick and he really hasn’t been too into reading since then. I am not pushing it. He has been very into letters and sounds though, and I am just so surprised and proud of him!
I have another question for those of you with children…how much TV do you allow your kids to watch a day? Thanks to tivo, I think our kids watch WAY too much TV because it is always available. And it is a way for me to get things done when I need to get things done. Just curious. I think I would feel guilty about how much they watch unless my answer was zero hours. I always thought prior to Ethan that I would not let him watch TV till he was at least 2, if then. That didn’t happen. And now Tegan asks for shows by name at 16 months. Oh well. At least they are mostly the educational type. So, leave a comment and let me know…maybe how much they watch and how much you think/wish they would watch….
I had been meaning to post about my jam that I made, but my dear friend beat me to it. And I am glad she did because my picture if I ever took one would never look that good. Anyway, Nana (Shane’s mom) brought us a ton of plums. And I mean a ton. Their tree was exploding and we were lucky recipients. I had so many plums, I decided to give jam making a try. My mom made apricot jam when we were growing up and I had helped, but it had been a long time and I had never done it on my own. It was easy as pie…or easier than pie in my opinion. And my lids “popped” so I am much less worried about giving anyone botulism. I really sterilized the jars, too. I sterilized them good. It is very tasty and my jam making fears are past. I would do it again any day. It was lots of fun and very much recommended!
I have a temporary sewing room for two days and I am so excited about it! Shane is working down in San Diego today and tomorrow and his computer went with him. So I set up shop in the office. My sewing machine is on his desk, a little table has my cutting board on it and my ironing board is right next to all of it. And it is oh so nice! I usually have to lug it all out and then I have my machine on the table, the ironing board in my room (to avoid iron mishaps involving children) and I have to move things around to cut. So, it is a treat (although I miss Shane).
I have been a sewing fool lately. I made the beard quilt and baby quilt you have seen and then I just finished another project today and have another one in the works. I can’t show them yet because that would ruin some surprises, but as soon as I can, I will show them off. I am excited and really enjoying myself. I have neglected the house which is in desperate need of cleaning. And I should go now and give my kids a little attention. I usually sew while Tegan sleeps and Ethan entertains himself with my tape measure and moving the pins from one cushion to another. But I still feel a little guilty. Time to play some Candyland!
