I had been meaning to post about my jam that I made, but my dear friend beat me to it. And I am glad she did because my picture if I ever took one would never look that good. Anyway, Nana (Shane’s mom) brought us a ton of plums. And I mean a ton. Their tree was exploding and we were lucky recipients. I had so many plums, I decided to give jam making a try. My mom made apricot jam when we were growing up and I had helped, but it had been a long time and I had never done it on my own. It was easy as pie…or easier than pie in my opinion. And my lids “popped” so I am much less worried about giving anyone botulism. I really sterilized the jars, too. I sterilized them good. It is very tasty and my jam making fears are past. I would do it again any day. It was lots of fun and very much recommended!

I totally am on the same page with you. I need to get some canning supplies. Our plum tree is so loaded with fruit that two or three branches broke from the weight. I’ve never canned before but my mom did it a ton. Guess I should have paid more attention.

I completely go through phases where I’m all about canning and now I’m at the spot where I’m just grumbling about how much room the jars take up in our cramped garage! I nearly chucked them this weekend, but realized I’d kick myself the next time I wanted to can and had to shell our $50 in supplies. I get passionate about things in waves. (Which is probably why I’ve been doing watercolor rather than oil painting- less money on supplies just in case I don’t keep up with it).
