I have another question for those of you with children…how much TV do you allow your kids to watch a day? Thanks to tivo, I think our kids watch WAY too much TV because it is always available. And it is a way for me to get things done when I need to get things done. Just curious. I think I would feel guilty about how much they watch unless my answer was zero hours. I always thought prior to Ethan that I would not let him watch TV till he was at least 2, if then. That didn’t happen. And now Tegan asks for shows by name at 16 months. Oh well. At least they are mostly the educational type. So, leave a comment and let me know…maybe how much they watch and how much you think/wish they would watch….

That’s funny, with Tivo I think we watch less TV. The kids only have one show we record (the wiggles) and Dustin and I only have a few and we basically just watch those. Jon & Kate plus 8 is a big family favorite with everyone, even the twins. Since we are mostly not home during the day, I think as a family we watch 45 min to an hour in the evenings.Saturdays, though ,they may watch 2 hours total throughtout the day. But tonight the TV hasn’t been on at all.

I don’t know about TV, but right now with it being summer, I am trying to keep all media (computers, TV, video games) at one hour. Now, on the days when I’ve had a little something extra to work on, it may have turned into 2 hours (if I’m working on a project or am mowing the lawn or visiting with neighbors etc.). But, I rationalize this, of course, by the fact that my kids spend about 3 hours (at least!) running hard and playing (bikes, skateboard, trampoline etc.) per day. They certainly aren’t sedentary! Like you, I’d like it to be less…. got to work on that!

I am shooting for an hour a day. My kids were sick and I was trying to get stuff done, so it was a bit more than that this past week and it really bothered me. I am looking forward to the day my kids can be outside three hours a day and I don’t have to be out there with them, making sure they don’t fall or eat dirt (mostly Tegan). That sounds great!
