And in addition to the reading, he is writing his letter like crazy. I got this dry erase placemat for a dollar at Target and we have already got our money’s worth. He will sit there for a half an hour, writing letters, erasing them and then writing them again. He doesn’t get the direction for writing them exactly right and he doesn’t always hold the pen right either, but he is so enthralled by it all and it is a great time filling activity. And he does a really good job!
We recently bought a few of the Leapfrog movies (We have 4 of them now) and he just can’t get enough of them. I am 100% sure that they are the reason he knows the sounds and the actual letters themselves. We would go over and over them, but it wasn’t until the movies that he actually was interested enough to actually get it. We still need some work on the lower case letters, but I am impressed and just so glad he wants to learn. Man, he is getting big!

I am so glad he likes it! Man, look at him trace! They look so good. And looks like he is getting used to holding the pen a little better too:)

I picked up the cursive one at Target for Grant, but they didn’t have print. I’d really like print ones for Dean and Lael… I’ll just have to look around at other Targets, I guess. Sweet, sweet, smart Ethan! And the reading! Oh my GOODNESS! he’s reading?! Wow!

The christian school my girls go to impress upon them cursive first. They both were able to write their names in cursive at age three. They were a little slow on the reading though. Way to go Ethan!

Cursive first is GREAT, Danielle. I taught Grant amazing cursive handwriting and then this year, the public school undid it all. :-( they forced him to write print and then gave him bad grades for the print that he did in a horrible chicken-scratchy way. He’s so excited to be going back to homeschool, and cursive! Hopefully, he’ll remember it quickly and it will all be in the past. It had a greater impact on his Language Arts than I ever imagined it would. Oh well.
Anyway, Erika, I found the print one for Dean and Lael at another Target and they all three sit at the table LOVING it!!!! Yay!

I almost bought the cursive one, but then I thought do I really want to have to store it? I think I will do it. Buy one for Tegan (print) and cursive for Ethan. It is a great activity, isn’t it?
As to cursive, I went to private school and learned cursive early on. Then I transferred to public in 3rd grade. They were just learning it and I was way ahead of the game.
