I have been wanting to start memorizing scripture that is applicable to our current struggles and issues with my kids for a while now. I had kind of tried it on my own, picking a few verses and learning them and trying to use them in our daily lives to really help them learn why we need to obey and be kind and so on. I also had my eye on this book for a while and last week, I bought it.
It has been 4 days and we all know four verses (well, at least Ethan and I do. Tegan gets the idea and can say a bit of them). It has been great. They are excited about it and want to read it, several times a day. And it has been applicable and, well, exactly what I needed to direct me to which verses to teach them. There is a little story to go along with the verse and I think it helps to make the point in a way they can understand. I have also just liked to have something in addition to our Bible reading during the day. Shane reads the Bible to the kids in the evenings, but this is something I get to do with them. We have posted the verses on index cards in the kitchen and I have to say, the verses have found there way into our lives every minute of our day. God’s word is good and I want it hidden in their hearts.
And while I am on the subject, The Jesus Storybook Bible is amazing. I highly recommend it. Each story talks to the gospel. The Easter story made me cry when we read it. It is a little advanced for the little ones… I would say some of it is even advanced for Ethan and four, but he sits and listens and asks as well as answers questions.
Taking time to show children the importance of being in God’s word and also hiding it in our hearts is so vital and I am thankful that we have these tools at our fingertips!

“Thy Word I have hid in my heart, that I may not sin against Thee.” This was one of your first Bible verses that you brought home from B.S.F.

Last night as I was putting Tegan and Ethan to bed I asked them to get a book from the shelf for me to read to them before bed time. Tegan ran and grabbed a little, but real Bible off the shelf! She opened it up and pretended to read me a story about Jesus. Ethan said “We always read the Bible at night!” Good job Erika and Shane. God’s word planted in their hearts!

Oh, how I love that you share these things. If it were not for you and Kacy and so many other amazing Christian woman out there, I would be lost. I love this book also! We are Still on F….it is a longer one and the kids are needing a bit more time on it. Still loving it though…..God is so great, I adore that he gives us the words we need. On another note, the Bible that you wrote about is half off starting May 11th at the Christian book store….just in case others wanted to pick it up! I think it is only $8.00!
