I was looking for something to read the other day and picked up my old copy of Anne of Green Gables. I started thinking about it. It has been around 20 years since I read it last, which is hard to believe. I enjoyed it as much this time as I did the last time I read it and have moved on to Anne of Avonlea now. That Anne-girl… she is just a breath of fresh air. I have lots of memories of reading these books and watching the movie (in weekly installments on PBS) and just wanting to be like her. And I still do! Lucy Maud Montgomery had to be quite a lady herself. The books are wonderful and just so precious and… lovely. If you haven’t ever given them a try, you should. They are so refreshing. So are the Emily of New Moon books also written by L.M. Montgomery. And then there is Little Women. Also a treasured book of mine. I think I am just going to go down the list till I finish them all again. And pray that Tegan will love them one day as much I as I did and do.
What are some of your all-time favorite books?

I just finished reading “Esperanza Rising” by Pam Munoz Ryan with my mommie book club. What a touching story. I think you’d like it too.

I LOVED those movies. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED them! But I never read the books, can you believe it?!
Favorite books? Hmmmmm… Pride and Prejudice, Grapes of Wrath, Great Gatsby, Where the Red Fern Grows, Lord of the Rings. In all honesty, I don’t read enough. I take that back, I do tons of literature read-alouds with the kids for school and have come across some great ones this year- just finished Understood Betsy and that is really Jane Austen-ish. I love books and reading, but TV seems to win out at the end of a tired day.

I know I read the first one, but like you it it was a long long time ago. I have never read any of the others, but I have always had an interest. Now I really want to read them too! Do you remember the show “Road to Avonlea” that played on the disney channel from the late 80’s to mid 90’s? I loved that show and watched it religiously. I don’t think I have ever seen and of the Anne of Green Gables movies though.
My favorite book as you know is Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman - I think her writing style is magical. I can read that book over and over (which is awesome because I was totally disappointed with more or less of the movie that followed). The Twilight series is still definitely at the top of my list. I also really love The Outsiders (book version) and A Separate Peace (we read that in high school). I am not really reading anything right now… I think I need to remedy that! Awesome post, brings back some good memories!

I really liked The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale. Had no desire to read it at first, but read it for my book group and quite enjoyed it. I’m trying to get my daughter to read it, but she’s not the fairy tale type. (She gets that from me.) That would be a good book to read with Tegan when she’s a little older. The number one book I’ve been suggesting to everyone lately is Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, by Lisa See. Absolutely amazing book.
I don’t want sunbursts or marble halls… I just want you. I love Anne!

Too many happy memories to count! We were Anne & Diana in so many ways. I love you my dear bosom friend! I was just remembering another really great book I haven’t read since 6th grade…Caddie Woodlawn. I need to read it again. Some other great ones are An Old Fashioned Girl, Eight Cousins, Rose in Bloom, These Is My Words, & Stepping Heavenward. Abby Sue is loving the Little House series right now….she is Laura & Anne all wrapped up in one!

Oh, Laura. I love her too! I tried to read Little House in the Big Woods to Ethan this last year and he didn’t really get into it. Still too young. We are reading Wizard of Oz together, though… never read that one before now. He found it and wanted to read it and I have a feeling we will finish it. I am happy my kids love books.

I liked Snow Flower. My favorite adult books lately have been The Glass Castle and Water for Elephants. Loved them both.

I read through all the Anne books right after we got married. As a kid I think I only read the first few so it was fun to read them as an adult- I loved them! My favorites are anything by Jane Austen. I was and still am an avid reader. I still get made fun of for how lost I can get in a novel. The rest of the world disappears around me. :)
