baby love, originally uploaded by Ladygirl.

I was able to whip these up today during nap time. I was needing a baby gift and didn’t think I had any flannel to make my favorite little burp rags, but there it was! I love them. I loved using them, I love making them. They truly are the best thing out there that I have found for spit up protection. And I love giving gifts that have a little love in them. I hope mommy and baby like them!

On a side note, I have found that if I am sewing or making something, Ethan wants to be right there and do it with me. His attention span is great and he truly enjoys it. He is my pin boy. I knew he loved crafts, but he even seems to enjoy other people’s crafts as well! He asked if he could sew today. Too sweet.

I’ve been reading a lot lately about Charlotte Mason’s education style/ theories. She very strongly believed in handiwork- not just crafts that were “busy” and fun, yet disposable (making stuff from egg cartons and pipe cleaners etc…). Teach a child patience, follow through, and pride int heir work by giving them skills to creat something lasting and valuable: knitting, embroidery, woodworking, sewing, painting etc. I’m only just learning some of this education theory, but it all seems to make sense. I bet Ethan could do some sewing- he’s brilliant little boy, and that patience trait is one to capitalize on!!!!

And, of course, the burp cloths are lovely. I still have the ones you made when I had Lael (they weren’t flannel, though) and now we use them for pretend play with baby dolls.

I love handmade. :-)

The burp cloths are awesome! I love handmade too, so much. Feed his interest in learning how to make things Erika. My parents did and they turned out giving the world a fine painter, a graphic designer, a crafter, a collage artist, a seamstress, a quilter, a photographer, an embroiderer, a ceramicist… the list goes on and on for the four kids in my family. And all because my parents encouraged it.

I love giving handmade things. I think it means more to the recipient and shows that you really care. I have made cross-stitch stockings for all of the new babies in my family, including both of my cousins’ children, and family in Italy. They’re all unique, and something to last forever. Be it elaborate or simple, handmade is always the way to go. :)
